Rectangular beam strips consist of rectangular reinforced ground beams which are designed to be of sufficient width to reduce the bearing pressures on the sub-strata to an acceptable value. The beam is required to be of sufficient cross-section to resist the induced bending moments and shear forces in the longitudinal direction. The beam is reinforced with either ladder reinforcement or caged reinforcement to suit the design conditions.
