FOUNDATIONS: STRIP FOOTINGS.

A strip footing is the one which provides a continuous longitudinal bearing. Thus a spread footing for a
continuous wall is called a strip footing. Fig. 3.2 shows two types of strip footings for a wall: (a) simple
strip footing without masonry offset and (b) strip footing with masonry offsets.

An offset is the projection of the lower step from the vertical face of the upper step.

The width if footing is found on the basis of safe bearing pressure for the soil, by expression.

where

W = Total super-imposed load on the base of the footing
qs = Safe bearing pressure.

(b) Stepped Footing.
